Rambutans, known as ngo in Thai,a small round fruit with a red skin covered in soft, fine red spikes. They are in season from May to September.
The rambutan is beautiful in appearance. The fruit looks more like a children's toy than something edible.Outside of the rambootan is red with soft green spikes. It is very easy to open with a knife or your finger. Omit the pit but enjoy the translucent fruit. The taste is sweet and the texture is firm. Eaten fresh, the fruit is also used to make jams and jellies and is even canned.
